Administration stuff: The FAQ

You posed questions, we answered them! If you have any administrative questions, please share them with us at swiftcraftymonkey@swiftcraftymonkey.blog and we’d be happy to answer them!

Be kind, be nice, be polite!

I think you know this one, but when you’re writing to Raymond or Swift or engaging in the comments, be nice. You when you’re saying hurtful or rude things as we’re all adults here, so if in doubt, re-write or remove the material

You have every right to feel your feelings and express your thoughts, but calling someone a “fraud” over $3 or saying our site sucks or attacking anyone personally —like calling me a “megalomaniac” because you couldn’t find a coupon that was clearly visible on the page — will result in instant blockage without appeal. You know you’re being a jerk when you do this, so don’t do this.

Why do we charge in US dollars despite being Canadian?

Administrative stuff: Why do we charge in US dollars, even though we’re Canadian?

This answer is simple – because it’s the only choice we had when we started on Patreon, and it’s been the easiest thing to maintain. Everything is designed for American currency – software, plug ins, programs, payment processors – so to not charge in it is a lot of work.

We charge in Canadian for e-books in the shop.

Administrative stuff: Our privacy policy here at Point of Interest

Our privacy policy here at Point of Interest!

Someone asked about our privacy policy at Point of Interest, and it’s pretty simple: Only three people can access your data – the administrators (Raymond and Susan) and you.

We take the information required by the payment processor, like your name, address, phone number, and email address – and that’s used to create your account, which you use to access the site or buy additional e-books.

We don’t do anything with your information. We don’t sell it or use it for any purpose beyond you having an account. We only use your email address to send you notifications of purchases and receipts.

To summarize, our privacy policy is super simple – we only ask for what’s necessary, your information stays here on the site, and you’re not tracked for visiting.

Using material from this site, my e-books, and my classes without citation and link will result in immediate blocking for life without refund.

…and shaming when everyone finds out.

To those of you who have built your career on other people’s work, you know you’re doing this, so pretending to be outraged when we catch you does nothing. This is a shockingly small community, and we all know who the thieves are. People might not say it to your face, but word gets around. When you’ve trashed a reputation, it’s really hard to repair the damage.

If you use any of my work, you are honour bound to cite your sources and offer a link.* If you don’t, that’s plagiarism and you will be named, shamed, and blocked.

*It’s super easy to put a little reference section with a link or just put (reference) with a link. You see me do it all the time.

Of all the people I’m aware have used my work without permission, only one has made it more than five years in this community, and another one is coming on four years. The rest are either blocked by everyone or just fade away from lack of attention. If you want to succeed as a formulator, you actually have to know how to formulate. Why are you pretending to be a chemist when you’re not? I’ll never understand this.
