It’s a fantastic skin protectant that softens skin (it’s a keratolytic, meaning it causes the keratin to soften), causes rapid cell regeneration and proliferation, and is approved by the FDA to temporarily prevent and protect chafed, chapped, cracked, or windburned skin by speeding up the natural processes of the skin and increasing the water content.
How to use it? It is a water soluble ingredient that does well in the heated water phase of your products at more than 50˚C (122˚F) so it can dissolve properly so you don’t get those horrible shards as it cools, The suggested usage is 0.5% to 2%. (The solubility is 0.56 grams/100 mL water, so my suggestion is to use 0.5% in the heated water phase to avoid shards.)
