Believe it or not, it’s time to put in your orders with your friendly neighbourhood supplier if you want to formulate awesome things for the November to December holiday season! This is our suppliers’ busy season because by the time you get what you order today, it’ll be time to consider making all the stuff.
Soap needs time to cure, so that’ll be made earlier than something like a lotion, but if you don’t get ordering today, the shelves will be bare and you’ll have to wait for the new supplies in autumn.
If you’re an Innovation level subscriber, check out the suppliers’ coupon section where you can get discount codes for Lotioncrafter (USA), Voyageur Soap & Candle (Canada), and Windy Point Soap Making Supplies (Canada) this month!
What kinds of things can you formulate as a gift or for sale?
Just about anything! I guarantee that if you follow the instructions for the formulas you find on this site, it’ll work! You’ll be making something that’s safe, stable, and awesome!
You can find thousands of formulas in the formulas section of the site, always found in the menu above. Do a search for things you like, like “scrub” or “lotion” or “conditioner”.
Some of my favourites are candles and wax tarts (tutorial coming in a few days), body butters, bubble bath or body wash, and solid cleansing bars, like shampoo bars or body wash bars.
I love making 10 minute lotions with elegant, non-greasy emulsifiers, like SEPILIFE™ NUDE and SIMULGEL™️ EG or ViscOptima SE™, especially those with some more interesting oils, like evening primrose oil, squalane, ximenia seed oil, or hemisqualane.
Here are my posts on making candles!
You made candles! A few things to consider…
How far in advance can you make formulas?
It will depend on the thing you’re making. Remember the shelf life starts when you’ve made it, so if you make a lotion that’s good for 12 months in August, it has until August 2026.
You can make candles now for December.
What are you thinking about making for the holiday season? Do you have any fragrance/essential oils you use that time of year? If you celebrate the holidays in summer, what fragrances are great for that time of year?
