Updates on upcoming Zoom calls, cancelling this weekend’s workshop, and thoughts about text chat?

Hi everyone! I’m sorry to say the Zoom workshop I had planned for Sunday, June 7th on solubility is being pushed back to June 21st at 11 am as I’m not feeling that great. I’ve been fighting with my never-ending muscle spasm headache, which is slowly going away thanks to the massive injections of Botox I received on Tuesday, but I’m feeling weirdly exhausted, as if I’m fighting something off — might be an immune response to so much Botox? – and I think it wise I rest a little bit longer. When the body says “no”, we need to listen.

We’ll meet next Sunday, June 14 at 11 am PDT to make shampoo bars! I’ll post the link with the password and handout sometime Thursday, June 11 or Friday, June 12 so you can follow along! We’ll make two versions – one cold process, one heated in the double boiler, so bank on this one being at least 2 hours. (I’m still working on the details of this one, so if you have suggestions, please let me know.)

Sunday, June 21st from 11 am to 1 pm (PDT) Solubility! Join me as we investigate how our ingredients dissolve in water or oil as we make a cold process facial moisturizer using all kinds of actives, cosmeceuticals, and botanical extracts, like allantoin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, panthenol, and more! (We’ll probably play with facial and eye sheet masks in this one as we did in the mixers one!)

I’ll post the meeting link and password with the downloadable PDF some time between Wednesday, June 17th and Friday, June 19th so you can follow along.

Sunday, June 28th from 11 am (PDT) we’ll be talking hair care products, rinse-off and leave in conditioners, and we’ll make at least one of my favourite conditioners.

Again, I’ll post the link and password with downloadable PDF during the week – between Wednesday, June 24th to Friday, June 26th – before the workshop.

After that I’m thinking we do a workshop or two about silicones and esters? What are your suggestions for Zoom meetings? I figure it’s been working so far to do one week on theory – like mixers, solubility, or pH – and one week on specific types of products – shampoo, conditioner, body butters. What are your thoughts?

I’ve created a Discord channel called – what else? – SwiftCraftyMonkey – and I thought we could set up a general chat channel and another for Newbie Tuesday? Should we give one of those a try this week? I figure once we get it sorted, they can be available all the time and won’t require my presence, that it’s something we can pop into to see if anyone wants to talk formulating as well as something we could also schedule weekly or bi-weekly.

Discord requires a sign-up of some sort, but that’s it. I’ve found it pretty easy to use – it reminds me of what we had back in the 1990s and early 2000s with ICQ and other chats.

Let’s pick a time and go with it! I’m thinking maybe Thursday – morning, afternoon, evening – or Friday – morning, afternoon, evening – to get together and have a chat. We can pick a topic and go with it or just see what happens? I’ll get a link to the general chat, and you can join in!
